... and when the heart of a dwarf, even the most respectable, is wakened by gold and by jewels, he grows suddenly bold, and he may become fierce...

Another quote from The Hobbit to finish off my entries this weekend.

If Tolkien had Thorin obsessed with his gold, won back from Smaug, then we have Snorinn and Borinn Fimbull in the Ashak Rise scenario of Orc's Drift!

Like Thorin, these dwarfs have succumbed to the age old draw of gold...

Borinn, chieftain of his clan, discovered gold deposits in the river Canis four months previous to being posted nearby. Taking the logical step of deserting the Grand League, Borinn, his son Snorinn and 11 of his clansmen have been panning for gold and have amassed a small fortune - six sacks of golden nuggets hidden beneath the floorboards of their cabin.

Although they have kept their discovery secret, as the road through Ashak Rise is seldom used, the dwarfs keep a wary eye out on both ends of the valley.

Much to their dismay it is not the Grand League who turn up, but the Orcs and Hobhounds of the Severed Hand Tribe marching on Orc's Drift with orders to wipe out all resistance on the way...

Will the dwarfs make a stand or run with the money...

Some nice special rules again in this scenario - Dwarfs are immune to routing because of their gold fever! Similarly all dwarfs in sight of an orc who picks up a sack of gold immediately go into frenzy at the prospect of losing some of their precious treasure!
